Tucked just off the Jászai Mari tér tram stop in the V. district at Falk Miksa u. 21, awaits the authentic Spanish style Bontxo Tapas Bar & Restaurant. After an ownership change this summer, Bontxo has reopened, continuing to delight customers with an expanded food and wine list.

This intimate restaurant embraces the traditional Spanish tapas style of dining with small plates of delicacies such as “gambas al ajillo,” prawns with chili and garlic, or “costillas de cerdo al horno,” spare ribs, slow cooked overnight for tenderness and full flavor. For vegetarians, try “rulo de cabra a la plancha,” grilled goat cheese, or the classic “tortilla de patatas,” a type of thick omelette with potato. Regardless of your choice, you simply can’t go wrong; all ingredients are imported directly from Spain for a taste that is truly authentic.

For the wine aficionados, this cozy bar offers 27 varieties of Spanish wine, from the red, aromatic Angel de Larrainzar of the Navarra region to the popular, well balanced white Eidosela of the Albariño grape variety, and many more in between. If you’re looking for something unique, Bontxo also offers a txakoli, a lightly sparkling, zesty white wine from the Basque Country. Unsure of where to start? The bar staff are more than happy to guide you with recommendations.
