History of Club

Ferencvárosi Torna Club was founded on 3rd May 1899 and quickly became the most popular sports club in Hungary. The colours of the club are green and white and the motto translates to ‘Morality, Strength, Consensus’. The badge design of Fradi was first published on the 8th of December in 1901.

The only club flying the Hungarian flag in European Cups in the 2022-2023 Europa League, Ferencvaros topped their group, leading them to the round of sixteen of the Europa League, formerly UEFA Cup.

Ferencvaros Club has also branched out into athletics, cycling, football, gymnastics, and swimming, all of which are training young generations to potentially compete at national level in such national teams as the Ferencvaros Handball and Ferencvaros Hockey teams.

Ferencvaros FC Stadium

They are playing their home games at Ferencvaros Stadium known as Groupama Arena in Budapest with 23,700 supporters. Club officials are aiming to play in the Europa League Final. In order to reach their dream, they need as many fans as possible for their home games more than before.

Ferencvárosi TC in European Competitions

Ferencváros has been the most successful Hungarian club in European football competitions having won the 1964–65 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

The Hungarians hit the European headlines back in 1995, as Ferencvaros became the first Hungarian club to enter the group stages of the UEFA Champions League in the 95/96 season. Fourteen seasons passed before the feat was matched by Debrecen in 2009.

The new millennium also began promisingly enough, as Ferencvaros claimed a domestic triple of league, cup and Super Cup in 2004. The club again made Hungarian footballing history as the nation’s first to qualify for the group phase of the UEFA Cup in 2005. However, they were punished for a string of financial irregularities and hit with a compulsory relegation to the second tier in 2006. Their attempt to bounce back at the first time of asking fell agonisingly short on the final day of the following season.

The ‘Green Eagles’ finally regained their top flight status in 2009, finishing seventh in what ended up being a consolidating season for them. The 2010/11 campaign brought a third-place finish and a shot at the Europa League, although the men from Budapest failed to secure a place in the group stage. Despite the turmoil of recent years and the lack of a trophy since 2004, Ferencvaros comfortably remain Hungary’s best-supported and most popular club.

Now under new ownership and with ambitious plans for redeveloping their stadium and training facilities, the Green Eagles will surely not rest until they are once again soaring above the rest of their domestic competition.
