March 27th, 2024

Summer in Budapest can get hot, so why not cool down with a refreshing drink? (You certainly don’t have to ask us twice!) Budapest may be famous for its ruin bars, but when the heat turns up, we know an open air bar can really do the trick.

For a cool glass in your hand and a cool breeze on your face, read on for a list of some of the best outdoor bars in Budapest!

Pontoon

Perhaps the most beloved riverside bar in Budapest, the opening of Pontoon means the unofficial start of summer in Budapest. Perched on the Pest side of the Danube, right under the Chain Bridge, Pontoon is constructed every summer to give people a place to drink in one of Budapest’s most picturesque areas.

The bar extends all along the riverbank, with makeshift chairs and tables giving room for an ever-growing crowd. Go during the day to cool off with a riverside breeze, or enjoy a sparkling view of the riverside when night falls--just don’t fall into the river!

Pontoon also regularly hosts live music in the evening, and DJs keep the party going.

Hippie Island

You may have already made your way to Margaret Island for a summer frolic, so you might as well stop at Hippie Island for a drink! Step through the colorful entrance into a land of psychedelic swirls and comfy hammocks.

Grab something to eat from their kitchen, or order something off of their ridiculously long drinks menu! Hippie Island is an ideal place to start off your Margaret Island bar crawl--but we wouldn’t blame you if you ended up staying there all night. Peace out!

360 Bar

360 Bar is undoubtedly one of our favorite rooftop bars in Budapest. Andrássy Avenue is already laden with swanky designer stores, so why not take the elevator up to 360 where you can sip in style? Live music and a curated menu add to the ambience of this Budapest rooftop bar.

After paying a small entry fee, you’ll be privileged to a 360 view of Budapest that will take your breath away (visit during the winter and you can keep warm in one of their transparent igloos!).

Time your visit just right, and you’ll be able to cheers the Budapest sunset--the rosy, panoramic view of the city can’t be beat!

Kőleves Kert

Kőleves Kert is the summer extension of Kőleves Restaurant--a Jewish eatery popular with tourists and locals alike. Although situated in the packed downtown streets of the 7th district, the garden is a wide, inviting space in the middle of the party district.

Grab a colorful chair or a coveted hammock and start (or end) your party-district pub crawl here!

If you feel like getting out of town, you can hop on Metro 3 and head north towards Újpest (New Pest) to Kabin. This bar is a true spot for the locals, settled peacefully on the riverside. Kick back, relax, and have a fröccs or two as you watch the Danube slowly pass you by!

Make sure to enjoy summer in Budapest by kicking back, relaxing, and enjoying a refreshing drink at one of the best outdoor bars in Budapest!
