Where to Watch the St Stephens Fireworks in Budapest

Every August 20th Budapest bursts to life with fireworks! That's because August 20th is Hungary's national holiday, St. Stephen's Day. If you're wondering where to watch the fireworks for St. Stephen's Day, we've put together some of our favorite spots for you! Happy celebrating!

The bridges stretching over Budapest's Danube river are both graceful and iconic - and they make for a prime spot for watching the fireworks in Budapest. 

The beloved Chain Bridge has opened this year offering beautiful views to the castle . You can also head to Margaret Bridge, Elizabeth Bridge, or Liberty Bridge to stake out your spot and watch the fireworks paint the sky! Be sure to get there early though - it's always crowded and you'll want to get the best view!

Why not get as close to the sky as possible? Climbing Gellért Hill up to the Citadel makes for amazing views on any day of the year ... so imagine what it would look like to see this fireworks hovering over the city skyline! 

Hop on bus 8E or 110 (among others) to Döbrenti Square, and then make the climb up to the Citadel. Get there early and you can even snap a selfie with the Statue of Liberty!

If getting out of the city and away from the crowds sounds like a good plan to you, then head up into the Buda Hills for the spectacular views from Normafa. During the day, this is a favorite spot for locals who want to stretch their legs and get some fresh country air, and during the night of St. Stephen's, you can watch the fireworks light up the sky from afar!
